DIAMOND/DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

There wasn't much honky tonkin' to speak of this summer. I split my time between the cruel mesquite barbed beauty of the hill country and the old fashioned splendor of Waco's Austin Avenue. Despite the fact that it is high time I made a move over land, I am going to miss this place terribly.

Central Texas rests on strange ley lines which are ancient pathways that absorb oppressive solar rays and charge the dreams of sleeping Texans.

I probably won't forget reading, writing, listening to music and feeling the rays beaming into the large windows of The 2000 Austin Ave. Apartment.

OTHER WORLDS

Above: Benjamin Marra could make a great comic out of Cyborg Commando.
Above: Against the day, Space 1889 travel through the Aether.

Above: Sci-Fi Rpgs.
Above: Delta Countdown, a conspiracy RPG.

Below: H.P Lovecraft's realms at your fingertips.

Tabletop role-playing games existed for a long time before their video counterparts. With a little imagination and some Mountain Dew you could transport yourself to another realm. The concept of sharing a space that exists only in the players and game masters mind seemed fascinating to me. From the shimmering futuristic mega Cities of cyberpunk to the trans dimensional horrors of Lovecraft role playing games can be a portal. They are imagination technology.

A few of these games were carried at the local bookstores. The artwork left quite an impression on me.

SATYRDAY NIGHT IN WACO

My good friend Buddy Holland played a house party in the Beverly Hills neighborhood of Waco. Buddy Holland sounds like a three way between Buddy Holly, Les Georges Leningrad, and Suicide. Waco's American Nightmare also made an appearance after their show at Britt's Burger barn. The band performed some great covers of Classic Misfits songs.
